Many of these roles, being in emerging technologies, required simple and practical solutions to get designs that worked in the lab to be able to work in the field. Some of these simple, non-electronic, solutions ranged from the ECM Protection Frame to the Scotty Scoop.

In parallel with this, as a motorcyclist with a shed I ended up working my way through fibreglass repairs and making seatbases and fairing parts, up to the level of making fibreglass sidecar “boats” and later, simple plastic welding.

At this time the boys were starting to take a serious interest in Historical Miniatures Tabletop Strategy games, or simply put: Wargames.
As a hobby which requires a lot in the way of terrain and scenery, the workshop started to be used increasingly for these projects. As I became more involved in their hobby it became mine as well, and we began to produce more items at the request of other gamers as well and also items for use by historical re-creationists, awards for Cadets and Military Members."
